FAQ

Questions? We've got you.

Advokit is a patient empowerment app that helps you prepare for medical appointments, stay engaged during them, and follow through on your doctor's instructions afterward. Think of it as your personal health advocate in your pocket.

Before your appointment, Advokit's chat guides you through a friendly conversation to gather the critical details you should be prepared to give your doctor.

With your answers, we create the visit guide — a structured summary of your health priorities and questions that you can email to your doctor, upload to your patient portal, or simply reference in the appointment room to keep the conversation on track.

Simply use the in-app recorder or upload audio straight from your phone, and Advokit will generate the summary and to-dos.

Most providers are comfortable with recording as long as you are transparent. While every provider has their own comfort level, many find that a recording reduces follow-up questions and improves how well a patient follows the care plan. These days, you might actually find they're using similar recording tools to help with their own documentation.

We've built Advokit with provider feedback to ensure the process is helpful, not intrusive. If you're feeling unsure, the best approach is to ask! Use the Provider QR Code in your guide — it's designed to quickly explain to your doctor how Advokit helps you both stay on the same page and keeps the visit running smoothly.

"I have a hard time remembering the details on my own. Would you mind if I record to help me follow through on your instructions?"

In most cases, yes — but it's important to be aware of the rules in your state. Recording laws generally fall into two categories: "one-party consent" (where only you need to know you're recording) and "two-party consent" (where everyone in the room must agree).

Because laws vary and the doctor-patient relationship is built on trust, we always recommend being transparent. Letting your provider know you are recording ensures you stay on the right side of the law and the right side of your doctor's clinical boundaries.

States that typically require "two-party" or "all-party" consent include:

  • California
  • Delaware
  • Florida
  • Illinois
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Montana
  • Nevada
  • New Hampshire
  • Pennsylvania
  • Washington

Note: These laws can be nuanced. Always check your local regulations to be sure.

"Would it be okay if I just record a quick summary of your instructions at the end so I don't forget anything?"

If they're uncomfortable with that, immediately after the visit you can always speak into the in-app recorder on your own and unload your next steps before you forget.

In short: No. Advokit is your personal health advocate and organizational partner, not a medical professional.

Think of us as your ultimate patient assistant. While our tools help you organize your thoughts, prepare for visits, and follow through on your doctor's instructions, we do not provide medical diagnoses, suggest specific treatments, or offer clinical opinions.

Your doctor is the expert on medicine; you are the expert on you. Advokit simply helps the two of you work better together.

Yes. We believe that to own your health, you must own your data. Your recordings and summaries are encrypted and stored with the highest privacy standards. While we are currently in our growth phase and working toward formal HIPAA certification, we treat every piece of your information with the same level of care and security you'd expect from a medical professional.

Absolutely. Advokit is designed with caregivers in mind. You can manage visit records, to-do lists, and summaries for a family member or anyone you're helping navigate their care — and share updates with other family members or providers.
