How Advokit Works

3 Steps to a Better Visit:

FAQs

  • In short: No. Advokit is your personal health advocate and organizational partner, not a medical professional.

Think of us as the "Ultimate Patient Assistant." While our tools help you organize your thoughts, prepare for visits, and follow through on your doctor’s instructions, we do not provide medical diagnoses, suggest specific treatments, or offer clinical opinions.

Your doctor is the expert on medicine; you are the expert on you. Advokit simply helps the two of you work better together.

  • Most providers are comfortable with recording as long as you are transparent. Doctors often appreciate patients who take steps to ensure they don't miss important details. While every provider has their own comfort level, many find that a recording reduces follow-up questions and improves how well a patient follows the care plan.

We’ve built Advokit with provider feedback to ensure the process is helpful, not intrusive. If you’re feeling unsure, the best approach is to ask! Use the Provider QR Code in your guide—it’s designed to quickly explain to your doctor how Advokit helps you both stay on the same page and keeps the visit running smoothly.

Pro-tip: Start by saying, "I’d like to record our plan so I can review your instructions exactly when I get home. Is that okay with you?"

  • In most cases, yes—but it’s important to be aware of the rules in your state. Recording laws generally fall into two categories: "one-party consent" (where only you need to know you’re recording) and "two-party consent" (where everyone in the room must agree).

Because laws vary and the doctor-patient relationship is built on trust, we always recommend being transparent. Letting your provider know you are recording ensures you stay on the right side of the law and the right side of your doctor’s clinical boundaries.

States that typically require "Two-Party" or "All-Party" consent include:

    • California

    • Delaware

    • Florida

    • Illinois

    • Maryland

    • Massachusetts

    • Montana

    • Nevada

    • New Hampshire

    • Pennsylvania

    • Washington

(Note: These laws can be nuanced. Always check your local regulations to be sure.)

  • Yes! Advokit is a lifesaver for caregivers. Whether you are at a pediatrician’s office or helping an aging parent, you can use the app to stay organized, capture complex instructions, and share the post-visit summary with other family members.

  • We believe that to own your health, you must own your data. Your recordings and summaries are encrypted and stored with the highest privacy standards. While we are currently in our growth phase and working toward formal HIPAA certification, we treat every piece of your information with the same level of care and security you’d expect from a medical professional.

  • Not at all. We designed Advokit to be accessible for everyone. If you can send a text message, you can use Advokit. The app guides you through each step—Prepare, Visit, and Follow-Up—with simple buttons and clear instructions.

  • We’re here for you. Contact us with your questions, ideas, or other feedback.
