The heart behind Advokit.
For over a decade, I lived in the shadow of a mystery.
While in grad school, just as the job hunt was heating up, my body started breaking down. A slow progression of symptoms began to hijack my life — turning simple errands into hurdles and forcing aside dreams and ambition in the face of uncertainty.
Year after year, life got harder. I had been diagnosed with PCOS at 16, Sjögren’s Disease at 18, and EDS and POTS at 30. Still, some things weren't adding up, and I remained diligent in my search for answers.
By 2025, I hit a point of disability and desperation that led me to take leave from my career and throw every ounce of energy I had left into figuring this mystery out. I quite literally begged for the MRI that would finally unlock the help I needed.
Turning pain into purpose.
An important part of my healing process has been a deep reflection on what worked and what didn't as I tried to navigate appointments on my own.
If there's one thing I learned from my own journey to diagnosis, it's that you cannot take a passive role in your own healthcare — and you really must advocate for yourself.
I don't want any other patient to walk away from an appointment feeling unheard, overwhelmed, or lost. So I created Advokit to be the partner I wish I had in my pocket from day one of the journey.
But what does advocacy actually look like?
For me, it was learning a skillset.
- Knowing your story and health timeline.
- Going into appointments with a goal and plan.
- Taking backup to help me remember my next steps.
- Maximizing every minute of short appointment times to go deeper with my doctor.
Advokit has all the tools to help you advocate for yourself.
You've got this!
